Linklaters and Clifford Chance (CC) have won roles on two financing deals for Glencore worth nearly $16bn (£10bn) in total. The most recent financing was signed last month (25 April) and saw the mining giant raise $12.5bn (£7.7bn) for Glencore International and Glencore Singapore, through revolving credit facilities with a syndicate of 91 banks. Earlier in April the commodities giant set up a $3.1bn (£1.9bn) liquidity facility, relating to its ongoing merger with rival mining giant Xstrata, backed by a 30-strong banking consortium.

Clifford Chance (CC) and Linklaters have advised on a major Asian deal that will see Singapore’s sovereign wealth fund Temasek acquire shares worth $2.3bn (£1.5bn) in the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC) from Goldman Sachs. The deal, announced last week (16 April), will see Temasek buy all of Goldman’s H-shares – shares listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange – taking its ownership of H-shares to 5.3% and its total stake in ICBC – the world’s largest bank by market value – to 1.3%.

Linklaters is planning to apply for a licence to practise local law in Singapore following the confirmation last month (13 March) that it has ended its joint venture with top-tier Singapore firm Allen & Gledhill (A&G). Instead of pursuing another formal alliance in the region, the magic circle firm now intends to engage in several informal referral relationships with local law firms, as well as growing its own practice by hiring lawyers with Singapore law expertise.
